QP marks successful celebration of National Sports Day throughout the country

Doha, Qatar · 18 February 2012 – Qatar Petroleum and its various directorates across the country successfully marked the State of Qatar’s first National Sports Day with a wide range of activities in Doha, Dukhan, Ras Laffan Industrial City, Mesaieed Industrial City, as well as in its offshore operations in Halul Island, Production Station 2, and PS3.
 
Under the directives of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP, Qatar Petroleum spearheaded the energy sector’s celebration of National Sports Day by organizing up to 50 sports activities in a total of seven locations throughout the country. The corporation had the highest number of sports events held by the energy sector and it also had the highest number of locations hosting various sports activities.
 
Doha
QP’s Administration Directorate organized various indoor and outdoor activities at the corporation’s two clubs in Doha, namely the Al-Ghazal Club and the Ras Abu Abboud Boat & Beach Club. H.E. Dr. Al-Sada personally visited the Al-Ghazal Club, where hundreds of QP employees and their families gathered to celebrate the occasion. The Al-Ghazal Club was the venue for table tennis, billiards, babyfoot or foosball, and tennis competitions as well as a walking marathon, while the RAA Boat & Beach Club hosted the beach volleyball and golf competitions.
 
Dukhan
QP’s Dukhan Operations also held a wide range of activities in support of Qatar’s National Sports Day. The day began with a mini golf competition at the Dukhan Golf Course, followed by a basketball tournament at the Dukhan Recreation Club and a football tournament for children. Sailing and beach volleyball were later held at the Dukhan Water Sports Club. The biggest draw of the day was the first-ever walkathon organized by the Dukhan Fitness Club, which attracted around 350 entrants for the 5-km and 10-km races.
 
Halul Island, PS2 and PS3
QP’s Offshore Operations likewise put together various activities to be one with the nation in marking National Sports Day. In Halul Island, which is the main storage and export terminal for Qatar marine crude, the employees of QP and its contractors played cricket and also competed in a 3-km marathon, which was held at night. At PS2 and PS3, a billiards tournament was held, with valuable prizes then distributed to all the winners.
 
Ras Laffan Industrial City
Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLC) also marked Qatar’s National Sports Day with numerous activities. A sports open day was organized starting with a marathon at 7 AM, followed by competitions in volleyball, basketball, cricket, chess, badminton, tug of war and carom board between the residents of Laffan Global Village and various teams from QP, Consolidated Contractors International Company (CCIC) and Japan Gas Company (JGC). A variety of other games, such as table tennis, billiards and chess, were also held for the whole day.
 
Mesaieed Industrial City
Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC) celebrated Qatar’s National Sports Day in a grand fashion by organizing a wide range of sports activities on February 14. After a 3-km Fun Run in the morning, the newly built Mesaieed Sports Complex became the hub of activities with football, basketball and rugby tournaments held there at the same time. A golf competition was also held at the Mesaieed Golf Club, while the Al Shaheen Club hosted volleyball, badminton and tennis competitions exclusively for ladies.
