89% of participants in QOC Survey practice sports
DOHA, 19 February 2012 –The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) praised the overwhelming response to the first edition of the National Sports Day held on Tuesday, 14 February 2012.
HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee highlighted the interaction of community with national sports day.
QOC Secretary General stressed the National Sports Day aim to encourage member of local community to adopt healthy lifestyle and develop physical and mental abilities of community members in light of the 2030 national vision.
Sheikh Saoud said that the National Sports Day will increase the awareness to the importance of the sports.
The QOC Information Technology Department has conducted a quick survey on sport active people who practice sport in a regular or irregular manner during the National Sports Day on Tuesday.
The IT Dept formed a team work of specialists equipped with Ipad devices and distributed at different areas like Corniche, QOC Tent, Public Post Office yard, Cultural village and Aspire Zone to survey the number and percent of people who practice sport.
Some 457 individual were engaged in the survey , where the result showed that around 406 individuals are actively practice sport in a regular manner, meanwhile 51 individuals do not practice any kind of sports.
The survey also showed that some 295 male are usually practice sports , meanwhile around 111 female practice sport in regular manner. the non-active male reach 31 and non-active female reached 20.
The survey unveiled that around 122 individuals practice sport at least once a week, 134 individuals are practicing sport three times a week.
The number of Qataris who participated in the survey reached 69 and the non-Qatari who involved in the same were 378 individuals.
